PD - HANDS-ON WORK

HANDS-ON WORK

For most students, private in-person lessons with hands-on work are the most effective and efficient way to learn.

  • In-person lessons involve chair work, table work, and some daily life application work.
  • There may be a possibility of Zoom lessons after a number of in-person lessons.
  • In-person lessons are in a mask-friendly space with HEPA filtration.

NUMBER OF LESSONS NEEDED

A course of lessons is generally needed to build a solid foundation for more self-efficacy and significant change.

  • The exact number of lessons needed depends on each student's particular needs.
  • In studies for PD, longer-lasting benefits tend to be seen after at least 24 lessons. But laboratory studies show that even a single exposure to AT principles can be immediately helpful for students with PD.

LESSONS WITH CARE PARTNERS

It may be possible for care partners to join lessons.

  • After an eight-week pilot study of 16 sessions with people living with PD and their care partners learning together, participants reported feeling their relationships had improved.
